Creating a FirstClass web site
There are different ways to create a FirstClass web site:
• use the Create web site rule
This option uses a FirstClass rule to create a web site. The button is located in the WWW container in the Internet Services container on the administrator's Desktop.
• create the web site manually
You can use this method on both new and existing sites. We recommend this method if you create multiple-language sites, as you will not have to change or remove incorrect information from the MS&L form that the Create a new site form automatically enters
• Create sub sites using your main domain address.
Creating a web site using the Create new site rule
Follow these steps to create a web site using the FirstClass rule:
1 Create a separate domain address and register it in your DNS and with your Internet provider.
For example, www.yourdomain.com.
2 Click the Create new site button and fill in the fields and choose your default templates when prompted.
A container with your chosen site name will appear in the WWW folder and will contain the same objects as in the Main Site container. The template set selection on the .sitepref form will automatically be set to the template set you chose in the previous step.
5 Open the MS&L form and confirm the information is correct.
6 Restart Internet Services.
Creating a web site manually
Follow these steps to create a web site manually:
1 Open the WWW container in the Internet Services container on the administrator's Desktop.
2 Create a new conference and name it (for example, Other or French site).
Note
If you want to create a language site, you need to use the correct ISO code names (for example, fr, es, or fi) for your chosen language.
3 Alias at least one template set from the Template Sets container located in the WWW container and name them the same as the template sets in the Main Site site.
For example, if you alias the Standard Templates set, you must rename the alias .templates. If you alias the Mobile Templates set, you must rename the alias mobile.templates.
4 Alias the Images folder located in the WWW container.
6 Create any other objects or documents, as desired.
7 Open the MS&L form and enter the site information.
8 Restart Internet Services.
Creating sub sites using your main domain address
You can also create web sites without having to register new domain names. For example, if you want a site with only mobile templates (or your own custom templates), you would follow the steps in either of the above procedures to create a site container at the same level as the Main Site container in the WWW folder.
Next, you would delete all the template sets except the one set you need to keep (for example, mobile.templates or your own custom.templates). You would then rename the template set container to .templates, as this is the name of the template set Internet Services looks for first.
Finally, you need to make sure the MS&L form has the correct information for the new site. If you use the Create a new Site form, the information should already be on the form. If you manually create a new site, you need to manually fill in the MS&L form with the correct information. A typical entry would look like this:
In this setup, you can add a subdomain name to your main domain address instead of having to register a new one. Here, huskyplanes.com is the main domain address but to access the mobile site the domain is www.mobile.huskyplanes.com.
