Installing Open Text Social Workplace


About the installation
You will be installing the following Open Text Social Workplace components:
  • the server and network store
These must be installed on the same computer. The other components can be installed on separate computers.
  • Internet Services
  • Application Services
  • the FirstClass client.

Server requirements are available in the release notes.

If you are going to run both the server and Internet Services on the same machine, memory needs for the two components may be cumulative.


Information needed to install Open Text Social Workplace
Before installing Open Text Social Workplace, you must gather the following information (you will be asked to enter this information during the installation process):
  • primary domain name
The name used for outgoing Internet mail
  • domain name
The domain name which resolves to the IP address of the computer running the server
  • primary DNS
Your primary domain name server
  • organization name
This name will appear on the Open Text Social Workplace login screen.

Installing Open Text Social Workplace
Start the Open Text Social Workplace setup application and follow the prompts.
Only select the checkboxes for the components that you want to install on this computer. Remember to keep the server and network store together.
If you are going to install components on other computers, run the setup application separately on each one.
Installing the FirstClass client
The administrator and custodian accounts use the FirstClass client application to administer the server. The FirstClass client is also used to configure the connection settings for the Internet Services and Application Services modules.
To install the FirstClass client application, start the client setup file and accept all defaults.
Once the client has been installed, it must be configured to connect to your Open Text Social Workplace server. After the installation, the client will be minimized in the taskbar.
To configure the FirstClass client:
1       Right-click the taskbar icon for the FirstClass client.
2       Choose Connect.
3       Click the Advanced triangle on the Login screen.
4       Click Setup.
5       Type either the server's IP address or domain name at "Server".

Starting Open Text Social Workplace
To start Open Text Social Workplace, you must start the following three components, in this order:
• the server (this component is called fcs64.exe)
• Internet Services (this component is called fcintsrv64.exe)
• Application Services (this component is called fcas64.exe).
As each is started, a console screen is displayed.
