Starting Internet Services

Before starting Internet Services
Before you can log in to Internet Services, you must:
•       enter information on the Internet gateway form in the Gateways & Services folder
•       set a password for Internet Services on the  Directory Information form on the Internet gateway form.

Starting Internet Services
There are several ways you can start Internet Services:
•       manually by double-clicking the Internet Services executable

located on your hard drive in the same location as the FirstClass server executable. This file is called Fcintsrv.exe (Windows) or fcisd (when running as a Unix daemon)
You can also double-click the FirstClass Internet Services shortcut (Windows) or the Internet Services Start (Mac OS X) alias on your operating system's desktop.
•       run Internet Services as a Windows service
The module will launch automatically upon Windows startup.
•       automatically, when you start your server by enabling the option on the General tab on the Basic Internet Setup form (both the server and Internet Services must reside on the same machine)

If both the server and Internet Services are on the same machine, and you have Internet Services running as a Windows service, do not select the "Start Internet Services automatically" option, as enabling both will result in two copies of Internet Services being started.

The Internet Services console
When you start Internet Services, a console appears on your screen (except when running as a Unix daemon). If do not have a console on your system, use the Internet Services Monitor form to access the same console options.
Some information displayed on the console is
•       the version of Internet Services
•       the operating system
•       a confirmation that your server is running
•       any Internet Services error messages
•       a confirmation that debugging is turned on.
For a description of all Internet Services debugging levels and categories, see Debugging and debug categories.
